Engagement Party, First Scan, a Wedding and a trip to the ER
Sorry it's been so long between blogs. I can't give the excuse that nothing's been going on, because that's definitely not the case! Where to begin?
Matty & Kirsten's Engagement Party
After their surprise engagement (you're a sneaky one, Matty!), our good friends Matty & Kirsten finally had their engagement party on the 2nd. It was a great party, and we were finally able to tell a few more friends the big news which was pretty cool.
First Baby Scan
We went in for our first ever scan on the 12th. It was very exciting seeing the baby for the first time! We found out that
- everything is developing normally at this stage, and
- our baby is a bit lazy - (s)he really didn't want to roll over when it was time to scan the back

Adrian & Michaela's Wedding
The excitement from this is starting to die down a little, but this has definitely been one of the biggest 'events' for quite a while. Despite having plenty of time to prepare for this, I still found myself rushing around at the last minute getting things ready for the Buck's Night + polishing up my Best Man speech for the reception. It's not like me to leave things until the last minute, is it?
Of course, I can't go into too much detail about the Buck's night except to say that the buck definitely had fun. The wedding day was a real success, though. The Bride looked absolutely stunning, and the Groom looked, well, stunned. (Sorry, Adrian, I couldn't help myself.) It was great to be able to catch up with all the family and to share our news with them in person. The rest of my family are heading back down south on Saturday, so hopefully we'll be able to catch up a couple more times before they leave.
The Emergency Room
Julia's Mum, Wendy, thought it might be a good idea for us to familiarise ourselves with the Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital (RBWH) before the birth, but I would have preferred that we could have done it on our own terms!
Here's the story... Last Thursday (two days before the wedding, if anyone's counting) Julia had to go home from work that morning due to some abdominal pain she was experiencing. After going to see her GP (who said it was probably just a kidney infection) she had to call me home later that day because she was in so much pain. I called the medical centre down the road not long after I got home and they recommended I took her to the hospital as she wasn't getting any better. If anything, the pain seemed to be getting worse.
Julia may go into more detail on her blog, but after an ultrasound later that night it ends up that she had an inflamed corpus luteum cyst on one of her ovaries. Apparently it's normal to have one of these when you're pregnant, but one in one thousand pregnant women have problems with it.
Apparently there wasn't anything to worry about (apart from the pain, of course), and she was sent home shortly after eleven that night.

P.S. A friend from work, Libby, has put us on to a great Australian pregnancy site, ninemonths.com.au. It's got a Men's Zone area for blokes like me, and it was great to see that all the things I had been worrying about were listed in it's 'Common Fears' area. Unfortunately, it also lists a few things I hadn't worried about until I read that article. Oh well. :-)

1 Comments:
How is Julia now? She hasn't made any more recent posts - so didn't get any more gorey details from her blog. Good to see I got an honourable mention!
