New Job, Parenting Expo and a Casual Missus

It's been a little while between blogs for me, but I think I have a reasonable excuse. I've been focused on applying for my job as a Web Publisher for Main Roads and that's been keeping me away from my blogging for a few weeks.

Well, I can finally announce that I got the job! After whittling down the applications to one interviewee (i.e. Me), I was invited to be interviewed last Tuesday. I was pretty nervous the morning of the interview but I think I managed to hide it reasonably well. I must have given them all the right answers, too, as I was offered the job on Wednesday afternoon.

This is a huge relief. It's been a while since I've been in a stable job. Even though I was reasonably stable as a temporary Main Roads employee there was still a level of uncertainty there.

Baby Expo

Last weekend Brisbane held a Parenting Expo (I'm not 100% sure that was the full title, but it'll do for now). As Jules had to work that day I went with a friend from work, Libby. Libby is due to have her second baby any minute now! Well, maybe more like in a week or so.

It was a new experience for me going to the expo. I'd never seen so much baby stuff in the one place. I hadn't realised that there was so much baby stuff available in Brisbane, actually. Still, it was an interesting afternoon. The first stall we went to was for the Australian Breastfeeding Association, and we were greeted by one of the stall-holders who was busy breastfeeding her two-year-old daughter at the time. I was a little surprised by this, but I think I hid it pretty well.

Another thing I wasn't ready for (mostly due to me not thinking ahead, I guess) was that Libby and I would have to spend the whole time telling everyone that we weren't married. At least, not to each other. Whenever we went to a new stall, they'd hand Libby some brochures, then she'd hand them to me and put her hand out for hers.

I was expecting the stalls to be mostly catering for Mums (or Mums-to-be), so I was also surprised to see one of the stalls staffed almost entirely by petite blondes. For some reason I can't remember the name of that particular stall. I think it sold cots, though. Or was that prams?

Casual Jules

As Jules as probably mentioned in her blog a few times now, she had been getting a little bit stressed out at work. So, we decided that it would be a good idea for her to move back to being a casual a little earlier than planned. I figured all that stress probably wasn't going to be particularly good for B. Well, since she's gone back to casual she's turned into a whole new person. I haven't seen her this relaxed in a very long time. Hopefully she can make the most of this relaxing time while it lasts!

I think that's about all for now. I'll try not to leave it quite so long next time! Promises, promises!

Wendy here : Great news on the job Dan. Congrats. Who wouldn't fall for that smooth charm and macho charisma. As far as the Parenting expo goes : the most we got told was "expect the unexpected!!" As for a pram, Ian brought Jules' pram back from Hong Kong on his way back from a Navy trip. Probably cost about $A5!!! Ah, those were the days.

Ian (Dad) says
You can't beat a stall with blonde salespersons. Afterall it got Jules and Neil a comfortable ride for the first couple of years (in their pram) More power to the forgotten fathers, and more petite blonde salesgirls. Only looking of course.
